Potters House for Women (PHW)

About Us

Potters House for Women (PHW) is a non-profit organisation founded in 2013 and commenced operations in 2017, with its offices in Elukwatini, near Badplaas in Mpumalanga Province. The organisation’s primary objective is to provide support to survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) in rural communities and schools, utilising the methos of dialogue, seminars, and awareness campaigns to address GBV, bullying, and sexual harassment.

PHW’s interventions encompass the provision of school uniforms to orphaned and vulnerable children, conducting workshops on gender mainstreaming to promote women’s economic empowerment, and offering psychosocial support, court support, and advocacy services to survivors of violence.

Ultimately, PHW seeks to contribute to the empowerment of women, promote gender equality, and mitigate the prevalence of GBV in rural areas within the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality.

    PHW’s has made a significant impact in empowering women and girls in rural areas, promoting gender equality, and addressing socio-economic needs. Key achievements include:

    • Empowering survivors of gender-based violence through support and care services and advocacy.
    • Enhancing the socio-economic well-being of vulnerable individuals through distribution of essential items.
    • Promoting education and career development among school-going girls through guidance and mentorship.
    • Fostering critical discussions and awareness on gender-related issues and social concerns through workshops and dialogues such as women entrepreneurial skills. 

    Overall, PHW’s interventions have contributed to improved livelihoods, increased confidence, and enhanced opportunities for women and girls in rural areas.
