Our Programmes
Our four programme areas offer a spectrum of support to marginalised and vulnerable communities, as well as to targeted sectors of society whose human and constitutional rights are being violated:
- Access to Justice Programme – support to CBOs tackling rights violation cases and collective actions
- Community Engagement Programme – support for human rights school clubs, food security and livelihood programme, migration rights, LGBTQIA+ national policy
- Gender Justice Programme – support to CBOs to strengthen their GBV activism and collaboration with local state actors
- Unfinished Business of the Truth & Reconciliation Programme – we advocate justice and reparations by supporting survivors and families still awaiting justice for apartheid era political crimes, engaging in advocacy, litigation, raising awareness, and collaborating with civil society.
We shape partnerships with organisations and formations that are respected for their ongoing contribution and resilience, as well as with new and emerging initiatives that require support. Our work spans a broad spectrum – from responding to rights violations of individuals through to work for systemic change. Each programme uses a mix of delivery methods:
- Rights awareness raising, violation prevention, campaigning, advocacy, knowledge building including exchange visits and convenings for learning and solidarity
- Partnering with local civil society formations to address individual cases while supporting a collective approach when patterns of violation become apparent, including class actions when appropriate
- Research and policy development, including community-based data collection.
A key feature of our programming is cross-programme collaboration, with one such example being our human rights school clubs that are implemented and supported by both our Community Engagement and Gender Justice programmes.
