About Us
Katekani Community Development Agency (KCDA) is a non-profit organisation based in Homu Block 14a, Giyani in Limpopo, focused on addressing the escalating rates of gender-based violence (GBV) and empowering marginalised and vulnerable communities. The organisation also operates as a community-based advice office. The major purpose behind its establishment to raise awareness about issues such as human rights and other social issues affecting community in general in addition to advocating for women and children’s rights. KCDA is dedicated to improving the socio-economic conditions of rural communities in Giyani, especially the ones falling within the traditional authority of Hosi Chabalala through various educational campaigns and interventions. The organisation works closely with Hosi Chabalala of Hosi Tribal Authority and other esteemed local stakeholders to provide a safe listening space for women, promote active involvement in child-rearing, and challenge harmful societal behaviours that perpetuate GBV and other aspects of human rights.
Key Focus Area
- Gender-Based Violence Awareness: KCDA raises awareness about the dangers of GBV and strives to create a supportive environment for survivors.
- Women’s Empowerment: Encourages women’s participation in civil society and offers platforms for them to share their stories and be heard.
- Community Mobilisation: Engages men and boys in campaigns to promote respectful behavior and reduce violence, particularly in rural communities.
- Education and Outreach: Conducts campaigns in schools and faith-based organisations to educate the public about human rights and GBV.
Impact and Achievements
- Launched a GBV awareness campaign in partnership with GBV local stakeholders, including schools and churches, which received positive feedback from the community.
- Conducted school outreach programmes, where students expressed their concerns and were able to access support services.
- Facilitated a successful stakeholder meeting that resulted in increased interest and collaboration with local authorities and organisations on tackling GBV.
- Successfully assisted women and children in need of support services, strengthening the community’s capacity to handle GBV cases effectively.
- Increased awareness of GBV and its effects through multimedia platforms like Giyani Community Radio.
