Capacity Building for Community Based Advice Offices
ProGroup Foundation (PGF), a registered, non-profit human rights organisation based in the Greater Tzaneen Municipality, was established in 2007 and forced by lack of funding to close in 2012. Its key objectives were the promotion of human rights and facilitating access to justice in the community. PGF also designed a sustainable community programme for gender-based violence victims and worked on education projects for marginalised children. ProGroup also offered professional legal guidance and tracked cases within the criminal justice system. It targeted women, children, people on farms, and people with disabilities.
PROGROUP FOUNDATION PROJECT: ESSAY AND DRAWING COMPETITION – THE SEXUAL ABUSE OF CHILDREN, MARCH 2011
This project involved an essay competition targeted children between the ages of 12 and 18 in the Tzaneen circuit. They were required to write 250 words in response to how they feel about abuse or how child abuse has affected their lives. Children between 8 and 12 were asked to draw pictures about the same subject. Two hundred of the best entries, drawn from the estimated 1 500 received, earned writers and artists an invitation to an all-day event on 11 March 2011. This was a prize-giving ceremony and celebration of child rights.
