FHR bids farewell to Director, Yasmin Sooka

Hanif Vally FHR Director Yasmin Sooka

The Foundation for Human Rights bid Ms Yasmin Sooka farewell on 15 September 2019 after having served as Director for 18 years, since 2001. With a traceable track record as human rights lawyer, Yasmin has contributed to a number of FHR programmes that have changed lives, promoting and helping to protect human rights.

Under her leadership, the FHR has awarded a multitude of grants to community-based advice offices and has contributed to programmes that deal with issues of human rights and the legacy of apartheid. Yasmin has been instrumental in steering the FHR to ensure that its programmes respond in a holistic and comprehensive manner to the issue of poverty, examining closely its linkages to other socio-economic issues.

As Yasmin embarks on a new journey, that is contributing in other ways to the promotion and protection of human rights, we wish her well and thank her for the indelible mark she leaves at the FHR. (Read Yasmin's profile)

In the same breathe we welcome former Deputy Director, Hanif Vally, who will now take over as FHR Director. Hanif has also been with the FHR for a number of years and thus he is no stranger to the FHR's operations, achievements and challenges.

Congratulations Hanif and all the best in your new position.
